Key Responsibilities

  • To run clinics independently for CVD checks, new patient checks, NHS health checks, phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring, smoking status, provide lifestyle advice and health promotion as well as Preliminary Long-term condition reviews in surgery and at patient’s homes.
  • The health care assistant will  perform ECG and spirometry as part of the diagnosis and monitoring of patients conditions.
  • The health care assistant will  perform simple dressing changes, with direction from the nursing team.
  • The health care assistant will perform removal of sutures/staples when requested.
  • The health care assistant will  deliver care in a variety of settings including but not limited to surgery, patients own home, nursing and residential care settings.
  • Work under Patient Specific Directions (PSD) with recognised immunization training when requested, in accordance to policies and procedures.
  • The health care assistant will prepare, maintain, restock and stock rotate clinical environments on a weekly basis, ensuring documentation is completed.
  • Ensure accurate and legible notes are kept for all consultations, and treatments are recorded in the patients notes.
  • The health care assistant will maintain display areas for health promotion and order materials when required.
  • The post holder will require an understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality and the ability to use their own judgment, acceptance of own capabilities and awareness of their own limitations.
  • The post holder may require working alone and determining their own workload priorities.

   Requirements:

  • Education to GCSE standard (or equivalent), to include Maths and English.
  • NVQ level 3 in Primary Care.
  • Health Related Training and First Aid.
  • Experience of dealing with the general public.
  • Understands the need for confidentiality.
  • Understands and is committed to a caring approach to patients, relatives and carers.
  • Experience in a NHS/healthcare setting.
  • Experience working within a Primary care environment.
  • Experience of using clinical computer systems.
