Our client is a well-established private practice based in Perth, Western Australia, providing therapy and support services to children. We seek to appoint a Developmental Paediatrician who will be responsible for investigating, diagnosing and treating a diverse array of developmental and behavioural challenges, trauma, internal diseases and disorders in children from birth up to and including adolescence. As a qualified Paediatrician, you will have undergone additional training to specialise in child and adolescent behaviour and development to treat a range of complex problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and treat children with learning difficulties, e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia, etc.
  • Manage attention and behaviour-related issues, e.g., ADHD, OCD and oppositional-defiant behaviour.
  • Treat habit disorders, e.g., tics, Tourette syndrome etc.
  • Addressing regulatory challenges, e.g., sleep disturbances, feeding issues etc.
  • Handling developmental disabilities, e.g., cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder etc.
  • Evaluate speech, language, motor skills, and cognitive delays.
  • Manage behavioural and developmental complexities in paediatric chronic illnesses, e.g., epilepsy, asthma etc.
  • Analyse test results and examination findings to devise optimal treatment strategies.
  • Prescribe and interpret appropriate lab tests to gain more information for possible infections or abnormalities.
  • Prescribing and administering appropriate medications and rehabilitation programs.
  • Facilitating hospital admissions and delivering in-patient care as necessary.
  • Collaborating, supervising, and coordinating with fellow Medical Practitioners and Health Professionals.
  • Conduct follow-up assessments to monitor treatment progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Support and mentor parents in nurturing their children’s development and mental health, ensuring optimal growth and well-being as they develop.
  • Participate in therapy intensive camps, workshops and therapist training when required.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and electronic records of all assessments and patient interactions in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Keep abreast of advancements in paediatrics and best practices by attending seminars and conferences.
  • Be willing to collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans and make recommendations for patient care.

Requirements:

  • Medical bachelor’s degree with 5 years of specialist study and training.
  • ‘General’ or ‘Specialist’ registration.
  • Specialised training in developmental and behavioural paediatrics.
  • A minimum of 2 years of hospital-based training (482 Visa).
  • Registration with the Medical Board of Australia is mandatory.
  • Excellent knowledge of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of medication appropriate for children and their side effects.
  • Outstanding diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written communication.
  • Charismatic and well-presented.
  • Compassionate approach to client interactions.
  • Microsoft Office.
